accepted our pledge to go to trial for the shooting of
Fatmata, Abu Bakar’s wife,
This is the good news that we have been waiting for months,
months of hard work, coordinating the good lawyers who
decided to take the case, talking to witnesses in three
different countries, ensuring that all local and international
institutions were monitoring the case, accompanying the
bodv back to Sierra Leone. beina close to Abu Bakar.

Fatmata was a 23-year-old woman who was shotdead by North Macedonian police at the borderbetween Greece and North Macedonia on 19 April2023. She was travelling from Sierra Leone with herhusband. The couple lived in a Greek refugee campbefore being denied asylum in Greece. Theytherefore left Greece and entered NorthMacedonia. Just after they crossed the border, apolice officer shot Fatmata.Fatmata’s husband was present when Fatmata wasshot.

He asked to be taken to the hospital with hisdying wife, but was instead detained for a day,without news of his wife. The police then offered todrop him at the Serbian border so that he couldleave North Macedonia. He refused and is nowseeking justice through the North Macedonian court.
